Session Recording: Working With Graphic Content – Protecting People, Performance, and Decision Making

KonTerra recently hosted a webinar exploring how organizations can better protect staff whose roles involve regular exposure to graphic and distressing content. The session was co-hosted by Dr. Lynne Cripe and Lisa McKay of The KonTerra Group.

For many roles today — across technology, humanitarian aid, media, human rights, and law — exposure to graphic material is no longer occasional; it’s embedded in the work. Dr. Cripe and McKay examined where this exposure occurs, from video and audio evidence review to case preparation and unpredictable, mixed-content encounters, and how it affects the body and mind, both in the short term and cumulatively over time.

The presenters then turned to the organizational side of the equation, walking through five systemic challenges they consistently see across high-exposure workplaces, including how workflow and policy decisions — case speed, review requirements, distribution of exposure — shape psychological load just as much as the content itself, and why existing support structures often go underused.
