What is the KIRB®?

The KonTerra Inventory of Resilience Builders® (KIRB®) is a research-informed resilience assessment that examines behaviors and experiences across ten key areas shown to support wellbeing and sustained functioning under stress.

The KIRB® helps individuals understand current stress levels, coping patterns, resilience strengths, and areas for growth. It is designed specifically for people working in high-stress or demanding roles and uses clear, accessible language relevant across cultures and contexts.

What is the KIRB® Course?

The KIRB® Course is a self-paced online learning experience that combines the KIRB® assessment with a series of short, practical video lessons.

Participants complete the KIRB®, receive a personal KIRB® Assessment Report, and then move through the course to:

  • Understand what their results mean
  • Identify realistic resilience-building priorities
  • Learn evidence-based strategies to manage stress and strengthen wellbeing
  • Focus on small, sustainable changes rather than generic self-care advice

The course is designed to help participants move from insight to action and to support organizations in offering a consistent, evidence-based resilience resource to individuals and teams.

How long does the course take to complete?

  • The KIRB® assessment takes approximately 10–15 minutes
  • The full course takes approximately 60 minutes

Participants can complete the course in one sitting or return to it over time.

Who is the KIRB® Course designed for?

The course is designed for people working in high-stress or demanding roles, including those experiencing sustained pressure, uncertainty, or emotionally demanding work. It is commonly used by:

  • Humanitarian and development organizations
  • Trust & Safety and content moderation teams
  • First responders and frontline staff
  • Managers and leaders supporting staff wellbeing

Who can see individual KIRB® results?

Individual KIRB® results are confidential. Each participant receives their own personal KIRB® Assessment Report.

KonTerra does not share individual results or KIRB® Assessment Reports with organizations, managers, or supervisors.

Will my organization or manager see my individual results?

No. Organizations do not receive access to individual-level KIRB® results. The KIRB® Course is not a performance management or evaluation tool.

The Aggregated Insights Report:

  • Contains no identifying or individual-level information
  • Does not include individual responses or reports
  • Cannot be used to identify or infer the results of any individual participant

The report is intended to help organizations understand shared resilience strengths, common pressure points, and priority areas for staff support, and to inform future wellbeing, training, or resilience initiatives.

How is KIRB® data used?

KIRB® data is used by the KonTerra Group to:

  • Generate individual KIRB® Assessment Reports for participants
  • Produce aggregated insights for eligible group purchases
  • Inform internal research, analysis, and learning related to stress, resilience, and wellbeing in high-stress work contexts

Any data used for research or analysis purposes is:

  • De-identified
  • Aggregated
  • Used only to understand patterns and trends, not individual experiences

KIRB® data is never used for performance evaluation, disciplinary action, or individual monitoring, and individual-level data is not shared with organizations. Aggregated or de-identified findings may be used to improve KonTerra tools, training, and resources, and to contribute to broader learning about resilience in high-stress environments.

How can organizations offer the KIRB® Course to staff?

Organizations can purchase access for individuals, teams, or cohorts. Group access is commonly used as part of:

  • Staff wellbeing and resilience initiatives
  • Burnout prevention efforts
  • Leadership and manager development programs
  • Onboarding or refresher training for high-demand roles

To discuss group options, contact your KonTerra Account Manager or email info@konterragroup.net.

Can organizations offer the KIRB® to staff without the video course, just as a standalone assessment tool?

Yes—organizations may choose to offer the KIRB® assessment on its own, without the accompanying course.

While the KIRB® Course is generally KonTerra’s recommended approach—because it helps participants understand their results and apply them in practical ways—some organizations prefer to use the KIRB® as a standalone assessment within an existing wellbeing, training, or staff-care framework.

Standalone KIRB® access is available for organizational use and is offered at discounted group pricing.

If you are interested in offering the KIRB® without the course, please contact your KonTerra Account Manager or email info@konterragroup.net to discuss options, pricing, and appropriate use.

What is an Aggregated Insights Report?

An Aggregated Insights Report summarizes group-level patterns across the KIRB® resilience areas. It is designed to help organizations:

  • Identify shared strengths
  • Understand common pressure points
  • Inform follow-up training, resources, or support

The report does not include individual data and is not a diagnostic or evaluative tool.

Can the KIRB® Course be combined with workshops or other services?

  • Facilitated group debrief discussions
  • Training workshops
  • Leadership or manager sessions
  • Individual consultations

These services are optional and can be tailored to organizational needs.

It does not replace counseling, therapy, or mental health treatment.

The course encourages participants to move at their own pace and includes guidance on seeking additional support when needed. Organizations may also choose to pair the course with existing support services or employee assistance resources.

How long do participants have access to the course?
