The significant changes within USAID can create considerable stress, and it’s important to acknowledge that high stress can sometimes lead to increased engagement in risky behaviors as a way to cope. This webinar, “Staying Safe in Times of Transition,” will provide a safe and informative space to understand the potential link between stress and risky behaviors such as problematic drinking, substance use, and suicidal ideation. The transition away from USAID can bring a complex mix of emotions, including grief for the work and identity you held, even as you embark on the job search. This webinar is designed for both current and former USAID employees navigating this challenging duality. We will explore the natural process of grieving a job and acknowledge feelings of imposter syndrome that may arise when reconfiguring your skills for a new role or sector. Most importantly, this session will offer practical strategies for finding motivation amidst the application process and cultivating hope as you build a new chapter.

What is the Aid Transition Alliance? Senior women leaders came together in February 2025 to establish an emergency project to support all USAID staff. The project focuses on communication campaigns around the value of humanitarian and development assistance, crisis interventions for mental health and wellness, career transition support, and capturing decades of international development knowledge and expertise. With the support and fiscal sponsorship of Forward Global Philanthropy, the Aid Transition Alliance (AidTA) project launched in April 2025.
